Phone App
The HealthViewer phone app puts your results in your pocket, so you have them at the doctor’s office. It’s free and view-only, and it works alongside HealthViewer on your computer: you add and organize results on the computer, and you view them on the phone.
What You Need
Section titled “What You Need”- HealthViewer on a Mac or Windows computer, with a profile set up
- An iPhone or Android phone
- A way to get the database onto the phone: a cloud folder (iCloud Drive, Dropbox or Google Drive), or a copy you put on the phone yourself
What You Can Do on the Phone
Section titled “What You Can Do on the Phone”- See your dashboard, lab results, trends and the original reports (PDFs and images)
- Look up medications, vaccinations, procedures, vitals and your journal
- Save or share a report as a PDF
- Unlock with Face ID, Touch ID or your fingerprint
Importing, editing and AI features stay on your computer. The phone app shows Available in HealthViewer on your computer for those pages.
Option 1: Use a Cloud Folder
Section titled “Option 1: Use a Cloud Folder”This keeps the phone up to date by itself.
- Put the database in a cloud folder. In HealthViewer on your computer, go to Settings → Data → Database Location, click Move Database…, then Lock and Move…. On the unlock screen, enter your password, click Choose Folder and Move… and pick a folder in iCloud Drive, Dropbox or Google Drive. HealthViewer moves the database, its backup and your stored reports, checks the copy, removes the old files, and unlocks the database in its new place.
- Install the app on your phone. For Android, get it from Google Play.
- Choose the folder. In the app, tap Choose folder and pick the folder that holds your
.hvdbfile. - Unlock with your HealthViewer password. You can turn on Face ID or fingerprint unlock so you don’t have to type it each time.
Settings → Data → Phone App on your computer tells you whether the database is in a folder the phone app can reach.
When New Results Show Up on the Phone
Section titled “When New Results Show Up on the Phone”HealthViewer on your computer saves changes to the database file when you lock it or quit. After that, your cloud service has to finish uploading the file. Then open the app on your phone, or tap Refresh, and the new results appear.
If something you just added isn’t on the phone, lock HealthViewer on your computer, wait a minute for the folder to sync, and refresh.
Option 2: Copy the Database to Your Phone
Section titled “Option 2: Copy the Database to Your Phone”You don’t have to use a cloud service. You can copy the database onto the phone yourself.
- In HealthViewer on your computer, lock the database or quit, so the file is complete.
- Find the database: Settings → Data → Show Database in Folder. You need the
.hvdbfile and theuploadsfolder beside it (your stored reports). - Copy both into a folder of their own on your phone:
- iPhone: connect it to your Mac (or use the Apple Devices app on Windows), open the phone in Finder, go to Files → HealthViewer, and drag the folder in. It then appears in the Files app under On My iPhone → HealthViewer.
- Android: connect it with a USB cable and copy the folder into Documents (or any folder you like).
- In the app, tap Choose folder and pick that folder.
The phone shows what was in the database when you copied it. To bring it up to date, copy the files again and tap Refresh.
Privacy
Section titled “Privacy”- Your data stays encrypted. In a cloud folder, the database is the same encrypted file HealthViewer uses on your computer. Your cloud service stores it but can’t read it without your password.
- The app doesn’t connect to the internet. It has no account, no analytics and no servers. On Android it doesn’t even ask for internet access.
- Nothing is left behind. The app works from a temporary copy on the phone and deletes it when it locks.
- Face ID and fingerprint unlock keep the key in the phone’s secure keychain. If you change your password on the computer, the app asks for the new one.
Things to Know
Section titled “Things to Know”- The phone is view-only. It never changes the database, so it’s safe to view it while HealthViewer is open on your computer.
- Use one computer at a time. The phone doesn’t change this rule: don’t open the same profile on two computers at once.
- Several profiles. Each profile is its own
.hvdbfile. Move each one you want on the phone, and choose its folder in the app.
Troubleshooting
Section titled “Troubleshooting”The app can’t find my folder. Make sure the folder holds the .hvdb file itself, not a shortcut to it. With Google Drive on iPhone, some folders can’t be picked as a whole. Try moving the database into a folder in iCloud Drive or Dropbox.
The app says the database is open on my computer. That’s a reminder, not an error. You’re seeing the last version saved. Lock HealthViewer on your computer to save the latest changes.
My password stopped working on the phone. If you changed it on your computer, use the new password. The phone needs the database to have synced first.
