Apple Health & Devices

Along with lab results, HealthViewer can import the data your phone and home devices collect. Device data is stored as vitals: it appears on the Vitals page and dashboard, and you can chart it in Trends next to your labs.

  1. Open the Health app and tap your picture at the top right
  2. Tap Export All Health Data. It can take a few minutes.
  3. Send the export.zip file to your computer with AirDrop or Files
  1. Click Import in the left sidebar
  2. On the Apple Health card, click Import from Apple Health
  3. Click Choose export.zip… and pick the file

Apple Health exports are often several hundred MB, so they don’t go through Upload a File, and the file is read from where it is rather than copied. A large export takes a minute or two. You can cancel while the export is being read. Once saving starts, the import finishes as a whole. The export file itself isn’t stored in HealthViewer.

Records from your iPhone, Apple Watch, and apps that write to Apple Health are turned into daily figures:

FigureHow it’s calculated
Heart Rate Daily Low / Average / HighFrom all heart rate readings that day
Resting Heart Rate, Heart Rate Variability, Respiratory Rate, VO2 MaxDaily average
Oxygen Saturation Daily Average / LowFrom all SpO₂ readings that day
StepsDaily total. Where your phone and watch both counted steps, the busier source for each hour is used, so steps aren’t counted twice.
Sleep Duration, Deep Sleep, REM SleepA night counts toward the day it ends. Overlapping sleep from several sources is combined, not added.

Weight, blood pressure, fingerstick glucose, and body temperature are imported one reading at a time, the same as readings you enter on the Vitals page.

The day you made the export is only partly recorded, so it is left out.

  • Vitals page and dashboard. An Apple Health tile shows your resting heart rate with its trend, plus your latest sleep and steps.
  • Panels. Everything from Apple Health is filed under the Health & Activity Panel. The panel is created for you, and if you delete it, the next Apple Health import creates it again.
  • Trends. Choose Health & Activity Panel in the All panels menu to find these figures quickly.

Export and import again whenever you want newer data. Days you already have are skipped. If a newer export revises a day’s figure, the newer figure replaces the old one, whichever file you import first. If nothing in the export is new, the import says so and changes nothing.

Clinical records that Apple Health downloads from your health system aren’t read yet. To bring in lab results from your health system, use MyChart / FHIR Connection.

Export your data from Dexcom Clarity as a CSV, then upload it with Upload a PDF or CSV. HealthViewer recognizes the file automatically.

A CGM records a reading every 5 minutes, so readings are stored as one set of daily figures:

  • CGM Average Glucose
  • CGM Time in Range, CGM Time Below Range, CGM Time Above Range, using the standard 70–180 mg/dL target

Fingerstick calibrations are stored one by one as glucose readings. The Vitals page and dashboard show a CGM time in range tile.

Use Download my data in your Withings account, then upload the ZIP (or the weight.csv or bp.csv file inside it) with Upload a PDF or CSV.

  • Weight and blood pressure readings, along with heart rate where the monitor recorded it
  • Body composition: Body Fat Mass, Body Fat Percentage, Muscle Mass, Bone Mass, and Body Water
  • Device figures are home measurements, so they are left out of the Test Catalog’s data quality checks.
  • To compare device data with labs, select both in Trends and use Overlay view.
